What started out as a peaceful protest in downtown Grand Rapids on Saturday, May 30th, 2020, turned into a violent riot by others later in the evening. The damage and destruction went well into the early morning hours the next day. When the sun came up on Sunday, West Michigan residents grabbed their brooms, shovels, buckets, and cleaning supplies and headed to downtown GR to start the clean up.
Volunteers brought water and snacks to hand out. Restaurants and shops (some of which had been damaged the night before) worked to feed those who were helping to clean up downtown Grand Rapids.
This shows just what it means to be “Grand Rapids Strong”. Everyone pitches in to help after such a devastating event the night before.
