RESTAURANTS AND BARS RE-OPENING SURVEY RESULTS
Now that restaurants and bars in Michigan have been given the go ahead to re-open, I was a little surprised at the results of my survey in yesterday’s “Random Thoughts”.
I asked whether you would be heading out to a restaurant or bar this week, or wait a little longer.
I didn’t expect the results to be divided so equally! There were 51% of you that said yes, you would be visiting your favorite establishment this week, while 49% said you’d wait a little longer.
I actually grabbed lunch yesterday and ate INSIDE at Burger King…just because I could!
NO MORE OVERDUE BOOK FINES
One of the highlights of my childhood was going to the Westside Branch of the Grand Rapids Public Library and getting my first Library Card.
I could now go and find a book I wanted to read, and actually be able to check it out, and bring it home for a period of time.
I had to keep an eye on the date the book was due back — or I would be facing fines.
This whole process taught me responsibility and a little about managing my money and avoiding fines.
Now, the Grand Rapids Public Library is eliminating overdue book fines altogether.
They say the fines collected only amount to less than 1% of the library’s operating budget.
Until now, If you owed more than $10 in fines, your library privileges were suspended. That rule meant nearly 12,000 account holders couldn’t use the library.
Now is a great time to return any books you may have sitting around the house. You can use their outside book drops. Their GRPL To Go curbside pickup program will begin June 29th. The library reopening phase has not yet been scheduled.
CEDAR POINT REOPENING PLANS — YOU WILL NEED A RESERVATION TO VISIT THE PARK
If you were planning a trip to Cedar Point this summer, it could still happen! But there will be quite a few changes to make sure everyone stays safe and that the capacity of the park is limited.
The park will first open for Season Passholders only. Shortly after that, Cedar Point Resorts guests and guests who have pre-purchased tickets will be able to get into the park.
Here are the tentative opening dates:
- July 9-10: The park will open for 2020 Cedar Point Season, Gold and Platinum Passholders only
- Beginning on July 11: The park open to Cedar Point Resorts guests and 2020 Cedar Point Season, Gold and Platinum Passholders
- Prior to Cedar Point’s opening, Cedar Point’s Hotel Breakers and Lighthouse Point RV sites will be open June 12 – 27
There will also be other changes:
You will need reservations for a visit. The park will be limiting the number of visitors to the park each day. All guests (including Season Passholders) will be required to make a reservation to visit the park though the Cedar Point mobile app or their website cedarpoint.com. A few weeks prior to park opening, 2020 Cedar Point Season, Gold or Platinum Passholders will receive an invitation to make reservations first, followed by guests who have pre-purchased day tickets. Reservation availability for guests who have not yet purchased a park ticket will be announced at a later date.
Guests who stay at a Cedar Point Resorts property will have guaranteed entry to Cedar Point for each day of their stay, beginning the day after check in, but must purchase a ticket or have a 2020 Season Pass.
Health Screening. To enter the park, all guests must complete a health screening declaration using the Cedar Point mobile app 24 hours prior to entering the park.
Temperature Screening. Visitors will undergo a touchless temperature screening prior to entering the park.
Face Coverings. All guests and associates will be required to wear a mask at all times.
Social Distancing. There will be markers and signs placed throughout the park to assist with social distancing of at least six feet.
Visitors should download the Cedar Point mobile app to help with their visit to the park and to make a reservation once they are available. For more information, visit the Cedar Point website at cedarpoint.com.
CELEBRITY DEATH:
Bonnie Pointer of The Pointer Sisters passed away on Monday, June 8th at the age of 69.
She was originally part of the popular quartet group of sisters in the ’70s, but eventually left the group in the mid-1970s to pursue a successful solo career. One of her biggest hits was “Heaven Must Have Sent You.”

I wonder how many hours of set up and trial and error it took before he got everything to work out precisely?

A LOOK BACK
On this date in 1993, the U.S. Postal Service debuted its Legends of American Music, Rock and Roll-Rhythm and Blues stamp collection. The set featured Bill Haley, Buddy Holly, Clyde McPhatter, Otis Redding, Ritchie Valens, Dinah Washington, and Elvis Presley.
Did you collect stamps as a kid? I had a small collection. I wonder what ever happened to those?
