June 30: Happy Birthday Rick Beckett!

It was back on June 30, 1954, that Rick Beckett entered this world. If I remember correctly, Rick was the youngest and last child Mr. and Mrs. Beckett had. Hmm, I wonder if there is a reason they stopped having kids after Rick was born?

Rick would have been 72 a old today!

I tried to find some audio from some “June 30th” along the way, but unfortunately I could not find any. I did find this clip from a day after his birthday — July 1, 2000. A listener claimed to have run into Rick at the video store…

Happy Birthday Old Man!

I’ve always been the kind of person who notices the things other people overlook — strange roadside attractions, forgotten pieces of history, interesting places, odd trends, and the little things in everyday life that make you laugh and say, “Wait... when did that become normal?” This blog is where I share those discoveries. Some days you might learn something fascinating from history. Other days I’ll take you along on a road trip, share a weird story from Michigan’s past, or simply rant about something in modern life that makes absolutely no sense. No matter what, my goal is simple: keep things interesting!

I recall a day back in the mid 80’s where we (student congress at GRJC) taped Scott to his chair on the anniversary of the advent of Scotch Tape. He was a good sport in the ordeal…especially since he wasn’t the intended victim, LOL
